In this thesis, I explore how lesbian parents in Sweden relate to norms about gender expression and identity when parenting their children. Through semi-structured interviews with six lesbian parents on their gendered parenting practices I explore how norms regarding gender expression and gender identity are present in and affect the choices they make when raising their children. The reflexive, thematic analysis relies on feminist and queer theories such as Yvonne Hirdman’s gender system (genussystemet) and Judith Butler’s heterosexual matrix as well as performativity theory.
